Kotoko trill fans with trial matches ahead of Ghana Premier League season

Published in Local Football News

Kotoko continued with their fine form in the preseason as they recorded six goals against two Division Two sides in friendly games at the Adako Jachie on Friday. Interim Head Coach, Michael Osei named two different sides with good mix of old, new and trial players for the games against Natcoster FC, which ended 2-0 and Future Stars FC which also ended by 4-0.

Ernest Sowah, Atta Kusi, Eric Donkor, Ohene Brenya, Evans Quao, Michael Akuffu, Idan Conney, Ashietey Olennu, Alex Acheampong, Bennett Ofori and Emmanuel Osei represented Kotoko in the first match which was won with a brilliant chip from Eric Donkor and a connection by Bennett Ofori.

The Porcupines dominated play and almost played the entire one-hour duration in the opponents’ half. Despite Michael Akuffu being in terrific form in the midfield, Kotoko couldn’t attack the opponents’ penalty area that much and spent most of their time shooting from long range.

The second match was however livelier. Kotoko represented by goalie, Felix Annan, Amos Frimpong, Emmanuel Asante, Richard Osei Agyeman, Edwin Tuffour, Prince Acquah, Frank Sarfo Gyamfi, Kwame Boahene, Isaac Quansah, Obed Owusu and Emmanuel Gyamfi,  showed great speed and agility. They proved superior in spheres of the game.

It took the side only six minutes to open the scoring. Amos Frimpong’s teasing cross was fired home by Isaac Quansah following a good work by Kwame Boahene. Future Stars FC were a tough bunch. They nearly hit back ten minutes later with a shot that flew across the face the goal.

Obed Owusu increased the tally to put the game beyond the opponents’ reach after 27 minutes. Emmanuel Gyamfi raced from the left and his shot across was met. Obed Owusu scored full marks when he met and directed the shot straight into the net.

Frank Sarfo Gyamfi made it three in the 40th minute as he ran inside the penalty box from the right wing. Isaac Quansah’s 56thminute goal won the hearts of the hundreds of fans at the game. The left-footed playmaker picked the ball from the midfield and dribbled two markers as he made his way into the penalty box from the right side of attack.

His ball control, run and direction deceived the opponents into thinking that, he would lay a pass. But, the tall and stoutly built player kept running pass his markers until he got into the penalty box where he curled the ball into the net with his inside foot.
