AshantiGold goalkeeper George Owu insists his side can avoid relegation from the Ghana Premier League, after a better start to the second half of the season.
The veteran shot stopper remains optimistic the Miners can survive the drop as he believes there will be positive results throughout the second round in their favour.
The former League Champions ended the first round second bottom on the league table with 3 wins 3 draws and 9 defeats conceding 25 and scoring 12 in the first 15 matches.
However, there’s believe and hope after C.K Akonnor’s appointment as caretaker coach, the gaffer has augmented the broken side and they are playing well now.
Owu himself and two quality defenders in Theophilus Nyame and Abeiku Ainooson have been brought to beef up the team, they’ve settled in well and quick.
“All it takes is a little bit of luck and a little more organisation because we’ve started the second round on a good note,” George Owu said after their unthinkable 1-0 win over Medeama in Tarkwa.
The Miners have summed 7 out of the available 9 points in the 3 games played in the second round, two away games (4 points) and 1 home game (3 points).
The former Hasaacas goalkeeper believes everything is working to perfection as planned after drawing with Wa All Stars in Wa and beating Medeama SC in Tarkwa.
“The plan is to get at least a point in all the away games in the second round and grab all the maximum points in our home games, that’s what we’re working towards.”
George Owu saved a penalty for AshGold in the 88th minute and was named the Man-of-match in the unexpected victory against Medeama at the Tarkwa T&A park in Match Week 18.
He is yet to taste defeat in AshantIGold colours. 2 wins, a draw and 2 clean sheets in his first 3 games, he joined them just before the start of the second round.
