Ghana winger Christian Atsu endured a torrid return to the English Premier League as he suffered defeat with Newcastle United who succumbed to a 2-0 home defeat against Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday afternoon.
The 25-year-old last appeared in the English top-flight during his spell with Everton when he played the last 5 minutes to help the Toffees beat Newcastle United 3-0.
On Sunday afternoon manager Rafael Benitez handed the former Chelsea winger a starting role and he lasted the entire period of the game for the host side at the St James’ Park.
The Magpies were reduced to ten men when Jonjo Shelvey was sent off in the 48th minute.
Atsu played an instrumental role in Newcastle’s return to the Premier League after scoring five (5) goals in 32 appearances.
He moved from champions Chelsea to join Newcastle on permanent basis.
