Ghana’s 4X100 women’s relay team recorded their seasonal best at the just ended World Athletic Championship (IAAF) in London.
The team previously second in Africa behind Nigeria are now the top ranked on the continent after clocking a time of 43.68s in the Heat event last Saturday.
The quartet made up of US-based Athletes Flings Owusu Agyapong, Gemma Acheampong, Akua Obeng-Akrofi, Janet Amponsah set a new record despite failing to qualify out of the heat after finishing seventh.
Ghana failed to make an impression at this year’s World Athletic Championship as none of the representatives made it past the first round.
200metrs runner Emmanuel Dasor pulled out of the men’s event following an illness whilst Alex Amankwah who participated in the men’s 800metres event finished fourth in his heat.
Female triple-jumper Nadia Eke was unable to advance to the finals with sprint queen Janet Amponsah also missing out after placing fourth in heat 1 of the Women’s 200metres event.
