Ghanaian defender Kasim Adams Nuhu scored an own-goal to consign his Young Boys side to a painful 1-0 home defeat against Russian outfit CSKA Moscow in the Uefa Champions League on Tuesday night.
The 22-year-old mistakenly put the ball in his own net in the 91st minute to tilt the tie in the opponent’s favour at the STADE DE SUISSE Wankdorf Bern.
Young Boys, Switzerland’s representatives in the competition, held the Russians throughout the game as the tie appeared to be heading for a goalless stalemate until the Ghanaian headed the ball into his goal net to claim victory for the visitors.
The former Real Mallorca defender was attempting a back-pass to his goalkeeper but lack of communication ensued as he headed the ball behind a stranded goalkeeper whose effort to prevent the ball from crossing the line proved unsuccessful.
Nuhu started and lasted the entire period of the game for his side.
He is the only Ghanaian who played in Tuesday night’s games as Swiss-born defender Gregory Kwesi Wüthrich could not make the squad for the game.
