Former Ghana international Augustine Arhinful is impressed with the mental toughness of the Black Stars following their recovery from disappointment to hammer Congo 5-1 in the 2018 FIFA World Cup qualifiers on Tuesday.
Black Stars players were left frustrated after the Red Devils held them to a 1-1 draw in Kumasi on Friday and got booed by the home fans.
The story was different on Tuesday afternoon as Kwesi Appiah’s charges turned around the adversity to dismantle Congo 5-1 before their home crowd with Atletico Madrid midfielder Thomas Partey making history.
And, ex-Ghana winger Arhin is impressed with the toughness of the team.
I’m impressed with how the boys (Black Stars) approached the match despite knowing that Ghanaians were not with them in the fight. They showed calmness in the early minutes when the Congolese tried to take the initiative, I must applaud them for that because it’s not easy to come out victorious from such fight, when you know Ghanaians had already given up,” Arhinful told Accra-based Happy FM.
Ghana awaits the results of Egypt’s clash with Uganda at Alexandria to find out whether they still stand a chance of qualifying from Group E though their chances are slimmer.
