Ex-Hearts of Oak coach Yaw Preko has revealed the Ghanaian giants nearly transferred defender Vincent Atinga for failing to impress.
The 21-year-old towering center-back emerged one of Ghana’s top stars in the 2017 WAFU scoring two goals in 6 games.
Atinga arrived at Hearts five seasons ago from Medeama but is now hitting the top of his game.
And, former coach Preko reveals he was almost shown the exit at the Capital club.
“When [Kenichi Yatsuhashi] I remember he was one of the players who was put on transfer but Nassamu and myself spoke to Keni about Atinga and because he listens to us he agreed the player stays,” he told Accra-based Asempa FM.
“What Atinga lacked was the confidence to play and I gave him that. He plays oozing with confidence now and it’s good for his development,” he added.
The defender along with Winful Cobbinah, Patrick Razak, Thomas Abbey and Kwame Kizito will rejoin Hearts of Oak for the FA Cup semi-final clash with Wa All Stars.
