The former Ghana U17 captain is happy with his contract with English Premier League side Watford and outlines his ambitions as a young defender.

Fobi, 18, joined Watford in the last week of July in the summer transfer window and was immediately loaned out to Spanish lower division side Formentera.

He shares his experiences and ambitions with Ghana Sports Online’s El Akyereko.

The young right-back has experience playing in Spain after his spell with Granada B last season. Below is Ghana Sports Online’s exclusive interview with the talented youngster.

GSO: Welcome to The Interview with Ghana Sports Online. How has the season began for you at your new club in Spain?

Kingsley: Things have been great so far for me [I’m] really playing well and improving my game and I feel great about it.

GSO: How difficult has it been for you to get used to the culture in Spain which is obviously different from what we have in Ghana – the food, language, people, music and the rest?

Kingsley: Last season I played in Granada which it was difficult for me in terms of the language, I didn’t know what to say on the pitch etc but this season is different at least I can say the most important words on the pitch. And, most of the players here speak English.

GSO: What was running through your mind when you signed for Watford and told immediately to go on loan in Spain? Did you consider it as a challenge?

Kingsley: Yh it was actually great for me to start my career in Spain because of my style. Last year was difficult for me because of injury. I didn’t start pre-season with them and even went late when the season start. This season has been good so far as I did pre-season with the team. So I’m fit and ready. Hope for the best.

GSO: At a tender age of 18, you have shown a lot of zeal and pretty good technical qualities and skills. Briefly, how did it all start? Getting onto the scene and playing for Ghana at U20 World Cup? What have you learnt?

Kingsley: What is happening in my life is by his grace. I played U17 and I was the captain which I was doing well. So that made me join the U20 group because some of the staff in the GFA know me and know my abilities. The world cup helped me a lot in terms of my confidence and I was happy with my performance.

GSO: What are your ultimate ambitions as a footballer? What targets have you set for yourself?

Kingsley: My target is to be the best right full back in Africa and be among the best in the world. Play in the Champions League and World Cup for my country.

GSO: Which footballer do you look up to and want to emulate?

Kingsley: I look up to Dani Alves for me I think he’s the best right full back at the moment. I watch his games a lot and I learn a lot from hope. I hope to be better in future.

GSO: What has been your biggest challenge as a young footballer?

Kingsley: When I played for U17 in 2013 AFCON people didn’t really believe in me because of how calm and small I was because at the time I was the youngest in the team but with time they were happy about my performance after the tournament.

GSO: Now to Our If We Only Knew Questions.

What was the first girl you ever kissed?

Kingsley: Wow! I can’t answer. I’m sorry.

Your first car or dream car?

Kingsley: I don’t have car now. I have a wife which is my mum ( I have to take care of her and my sisters) at the right time I would buy one. But I love Benz.

Stranded on a desert what three things would you take with you?

Kingsley: Hahaha 🙂 – water, food and gun.

Favourite city you would love to spend your holidays in?

Kingsley: Straight up! Ibiza. Lovely place!

Thank you Kingsley for talking to Ghana Sports Online.
