Former Black Stars defender Samuel Osei Kuffuor has delivered a damning verdict on Ghana’s prospect at next years’ Africa Cup of Nations tournament, claiming the Black Stars cannot win the title.
The Black Stars have been urged to win the next edition of the Cup of Nations tournament with head Coach Kwesi Appiah being tasked to end the country’s long wait for a silverware.
Ghana, despite giving a shot at the Cup of Nations title on countless occasions have failed to annex the trophy since 1982.
The closest the Black Stars have come was in 2010 and 2017 where they lost in the finals to Egypt and Cote d’ Ivoire respectively.
Despite calls for the team to clinch the ultimate in 2019, the former Africa footballer of the year nominee believes there is more to be done to get a hand on the trophy.
“Our target must be 2021. The current crop cannot win in 2019,” the former Bayern Munich star told the media during the unveiling of the top 3 players for the CAF footballer of the year.
“I think we need to do more, we need to prepare very well and make sure we are ready.
“It is not easy as we think, every country will be going for the title and they will be preparing very well and so we must also do well to prepare.”
The four-time African Champions finished fourth in the last edition of the Cup of Nations in Gabon.
