Robert Sarfo Mensah, Director General for the National Sports Authority (NSA), has stated an attempt summon the Ghana Football Association to the Parliamentary Select Committee to explain the cause of Ghana’s failure to qualify for the 2018 FIFA World Cup and Championship of African Nations (CHAN) tournament.
The administrator also revealed his outfit’s intentions to query the Nation’s Football governing body on their preparations towards the Africa Women’s Championship which will be hosted in Ghana later this year and also question the Association to laydown plans of the way forward for Ghana football and other related issues.
This comes after the Minority Leader in Parliament, Hon. Haruna Iddrisu,stated on the floor of the house that officials of the GFA have some explanations to do with regards to the failures of the national teams.
“The NSA will face the Parliamentary select committee together with the GFA to state the causes of Ghana’s failure to qualify for the 2018 FIFA World Cup,CHAN,preparations towards the AWCON ,way forward for Ghana football and other related issues” Robert Sarfo Mensah affirmed on Asempa FM.
The senior national team (Black Stars) failed to qualify for the 2018 FIFA World Cup following a poor qualification campaign, which culminated in just one win in six group games.
Ghana’s bid for a fourth successive World Cup appearance was subsequently halted, with Egypt topping Group E and picking the ticket to the Mundial.
The Black Stars ‘B’ team also failed to make it to the 2018 Championship of African Nations (CHAN) once again after succumbing to a shocking 2-1 loss at home to Burkina Faso .
Ghana secured the hosting rights to the 2018 edition of the eighth -nation competition last year.
The GFA was unable to appear before the Parliamentary select committee on sports as scheduled earlier due to their heavily involvement in the 2017 CAF Awards which was held in Ghana.
