Four wins in five matches had seen the Miners maintain a 100 percent record in the 2017/18 Ghana Premier League, that feat was dashed on Wednesday after a late goal by substitute Elvis Kyei Baffour saw the former Ghana Champions suffer a painful 1-0 defeat to Liberty Professionals at the Dansoman Park.
Liberty over tuned what looked like a game for the visiting team after a swift counter break late in the game.
Striker Benjamin Eshun located substitute Tamimu Muntari on the right who sent a quick pass to find Elvis Kyei Baffour as the latter slotted home the only goal of the game in additional time.
A goal which ultimately broke the hearts of the visiting fans who had come in their numbers to cheer their team (AshGold) on at the Carl Raindolf Park.
Ashanti Gold Coach CK Akonnor after the game bemoaned the soar defeat.
“It is a painful one, a very painful defeat looking at the time we conceded.
“We were pushing to get the winner and unfortunately for us we ended up conceding very late.
“We came in for the win but a draw wouldn’t have been a back result for us but is very unfortunate we conceded at that time.”
Ashanti Gold despite the defeat still maintain their top spot on the League table.
