Experienced Ghanaian football lawyer Kwame Ntow Fianko has labelled Kwesi Nyantakyi’s friends and cronies advising the CAF First Vice President to seek re-election for the Ghana FA Presidency in 2019 as sycophantic dinosaurs.
Nyantakyi has reportedly made a U-turn on his earlier decision not to seek re-election in the Ghana Presidency and is expected to announce his decision to seek re-election.
Some Executive Committee members of the Ghana FA have openly stated on radio they are talking Nyantakyi out of his decision not to contest the election in 2019.
Tema Youth owner Wilfried Osei Kwaku and Western region RFA President Kojo Yankah have been the front runners with Techiman City CEO Kofi Manu being the latest to join the train.
But, Ntow Fianko, popularly known in football circles as football encyclopedia says those leading the campaign for Nyantakyi to seek re-election are doing so because of their personal interest and not that of Ghana football.
“No, I don’t agree for Kwesi Nyantakyi to contest again. All those advising him to seek re-election are sycophantic dinosaurs who are just doing that because of their stomachs,” he said.
Nyantakyi has been the Ghana FA President since 2005 and is credited for qualifying Ghana to three successful World Cup tournaments.
But, the sharp decline in local football, failure to qualify for the 2018 World Cup, bad publicity caused by his failure to manage the Black Stars at the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil along with huge public perception of corruption, football followers have fallen out of love with the Wa All Stars bankroller.
Many have tipped his current Vice President George Afriyie to succeed him.
