Kotoko secured the bragging rights by defeating Hearts of Oak 2-0 in the first leg of the “Super 2” clash on Sunday afternoon at the Babayara Sports Stadium.
Two goals by forward Songne Yacouba ensured the Porcupine Warriors recorded a famous win over their rivals.
The Reds got the breakthrough just before half time after Yacouba capitalized on a rebound from a Michael Yeboah shot.
Hearts of Oak made efforts to get back on level terms with the introduction of Salasi Bakai just after recess, however the steady defense of Kotoko prevented the Rainbow Club from getting back into the game.
Things got worse for Hearts of Oak when defender Robert Addo was sent off for a second bookable offense after bringing down Kotoko danger man Sogna Yacouba.
Yacouba got his brace on the day and Kotoko’s second from a swift counter break on the hour mark after receiving a pass from Jordan Opoku to chip the ball over goalkeeper Ben Mensah.
The two sides will play each other in the reverse fixture on September 2 at the Babayara Sports Stadium.
