Owner and bank roller of New Edubiase Football Club, Abdul Salam Yakubu wants government to invest fully and heavily in football as part of the reforms expected from the yet to be named Normalization Committee.
The outspoken administrator is of the view that for the halt in all football activities for the past three months to be useful, Government must invest heavily in the game when it resumes to make the game attractive again. For him, it will be a waste of time if government does nothing and hands over to football people.
“We would have wasted a lot of time if government does not invest in football after the normalization committee takes over. As part of reforms I propose government pumps a lot of money into football to make it more attractive hence the halt would have been a waste of time”, he explained.
Speaking on the Ultimate Sports Show, the black satellite management committee member further challenged government to emulate what is been practised in Gabon and Congo where government gives the local clubs some amount of money before the start of every football season.
“Since we all complain about how the local footballers are not well cared for, we will need money to improve their standard of living”, he added.
Also Abdul Salam advocated that the timing of the local league be changed since the sun is normally very up at 3pm and it is not favorable for the players hence contributing to the low patronage as well.
