Spokesperson of the normalization committee Dan Kweku Yeboah says players of the Black Stars team agreed to play Kotoko in a friendly after the Nations Cup qualifier against Sierra Leone was called off.
There were speculations that authorities imposed the friendly on the players after the game against Sierra Leone was cancelled, an accession Dan Kweku Yeboah has denied saying it was an agreement between the technical team and players.
“We spoke to the players and they agreed to play the friendly against Kotoko, it wasn’t imposed on them as speculated,” he told Happy FM.
“They were happy with the warm reception in Kumasi hence agreed to play against Kotoko to make the fans happy.
“Many of the fans obviously were disappointed upon hearing the game was not coming on because they wanted to watch the Black Stars play in Kumasi once again.
“So in as much as Kwesi Appiah requested for the friendly to assess the players, the players themselves also agreed to play the friendly.”
Sierra Leone could not honour the Nations Cup qualifier against the Black Stars after FIFA slapped the country with a ban for “government interference”.
