Ghana coach James Kwesi Appiah has sent a big signal he would demand more from his players by axing striker Raphael Dwamena from his squad for the upcoming 2019 AFCON qualifier against Sierra Leone.
The Levante striker could not make the grades this time round after he failed to impress in his last game for Ghana, wasting key chances in the game as Ghana slipped to a painful 1-0 loss against minnows Kenya.
Most Ghana fans believe the Black Stars wouldn’t have lost the game had Dwamena converted any of the begging chances that fell to him.
Captain Asamoah Gyan has been recalled to beef up the strikeforce with his experience.
Gyan’s arrival is expected to inject seriousness and competition into the squad who receive flake from Ghanaians following their lacklustre show in Nairobi.
Dwamena has paid the price for failing to seal his place in the squad while his lack of game time at club level has also affected him.
He has dropped down the pecking order at the La Liga club since returning from the Kenya game.
Levante acquired striker Borja Mayoral from Real Madrid while Dwamena is available in the squad which could mean the club is not satisfied with his form.
His teammate Emmanuel Boateng has been invited for the game along with Alaves midfield. Workhorse Wakaso Mubarak.
Belgium-based Daniel Opare who also under-performed in the Kenya game has lost his place.
