Black Maidens striker Mukarama Abdulai has equaled Jane Ayieyam’s record as Ghana’s top scorer at the FIFA U17 Women’s World Cup.
Mukarama equaled her predecessor’s achievement after scoring twice in Ghana’s 2-0 win over New Zealand.
Until last Tuesday, Ayieyam remained the highest Ghanaian scorer at that level after netting four goals for the Black Maidens in 2012 where the team won bronze going on to score twice in the team’s campaign in Costa Rica two years later.
Four years on, 16-year-old Mukarama Abdulai is on the verge of breaking that record set by the Black Queens forward having bagged six goals in Ghana’s three group matches.
The Northern Ladies attacker (Mukarama Abdulai) has a chance of becoming the highest scoring Ghanaian player in the competition when the Black Maidens take on Mexico at the quarterfinals on Sunday.
She is currently the top scorer in the competition as she inches closer to meet her target of winning the Golden ball award.
