Ghana’s Black Satellites could not progress in the WAFU U20 Zone B Championship after losing 4-2 to Nigeria in their second group match.
The former African Champions needed to win to make it past the group after losing 1-0 to Niger in their opening match.
Winger Emmanuel Toku broke the deadlock for Ghana after 28minutes. Ghana could not hold on to the advantage before the break as Maxwell Michael pulled parity for Nigeria in the 44th minute.
Abubakar Ibrahim converted from the penalty spot to give Nigeria the lead with 13minutes left on the clock. Wasiu Alalde then made things worse for the Black Satellites by scoring Nigeria’s third in the 81st minute.
Substitute Awudu Tahiru revived Ghana’s hopes late in the game by pulling a goal back however that would be cut short with another goal from Nigeria to end the game 4-2 in favor of the Flying Eagles.
The result sees Ghana crash out of the competition.
Coach Jimmy Cobblah will now prepare his side for the Africa U20 Championship to be hosted in Niger.
