Ghana international Abdul Majeed Waris scored a classy finish to power Nantes to a 2-0 win over 10-man Montpellier in the French Ligue 1 on Tuesday night.
The 27-year-old swept home the opening goal of the game for Nantes at the Stade de la Beaujoire after applying a great technique to control a Valentin Rongier ball inside the box before firing past the onrushing home away keeper.
Waris’ 62nd minute opening goal cracked the defence for the away side opened after holding they managed to hold them for most part of the hour.
His goal inspired Nantes to go in search of the killer punch and it was 31-year-old Nicolas Pallois who delivered it when Montpellier keeper Benjamin Lecomte failed to deal with a loose floating ball from a corner kick.
Waris has now scored twice in his last three games for Nantes and has taken his season tally to 4 in all competitions. He has scored twice in the Coupe de la Ligue and twice in the Ligue 1.
His scoring form will come as refreshing news to Ghana coach James Kwesi Appiah who has called for his strikers to be in good shape.
Waris remains one of the members of Ghana’s strikeforce for the upcoming 2019 AFCON which kicks off in June in Egypt.
France-born Ghanaian defender Enock Kwateng played 90 minutes for Nantes and was overly impressive as he played at the right side of midfield.
