Talented Ghanaian defender Gabriel Owusu Frimpong is set to take Portugal by storm as Benfica plan unleashing him onto their first team next season.
The 19-year-old precocious defender was in action for the Benfica B on Saturday as they recorded a 1-0 loss to Pacos de Ferreira in the Portuguese Segunda Division.
Benfica plan to use his towering figure, agility to switch around the various defensive roles and extraordinary physique in their first team campaign next.
Frimpong was promoted to the B squad last season but made just one league appearance for them.
He was born to Ghanaian parents in the Dutch city of Rotterdam but holds a Dutch passport but is illegible for three countries – Ghana, Netherlands and Portugal.
Portuguese talent watchers have identified him to be one for the future and have recommended him for junior national team call up.
