Kotoko failed to progress past the Group stage of the CAF Confederation Cup after losing 2-1 to ZESCO United.
Coach CK Akonnor made some changes in his team as he handed Ivorian Dany Zabo Teguy his debut game in the absence of talisman Songne Yacouba who was suspended.
The Porcupine Warriors who were in search of nothing but victory could not hold on to a lead as they sat back for the home side to turn the game around in the space of two minutes.
Kotoko after holding ZESCO United in the first half managed to find the back of the net when Stephen Nyarko came off the bench in the second half to put the Reds in front.
The midfielder received a cross from the foot of danger man Emmanuel Gyamfi and took a touch which was saved by the ZESCO United however capitalized on a rebound to head home the opener.
Once again the Ghanaian giants would be let down by their defense after center-back Emmanuel Agyemang Badu allowed in a cross from the right for Jesse Were to tap home from close range.
Moments after Were’s equalizer, the home side went in front after Kotoko’s defense failed to clear the ball from the penalty area following a save from goalkeeper Felix Annan.
CK Akonnor introduced the likes of Fredrick Boateng and Obed Owusu for Dany Zabo and Abdul Fatawu in a bid to pull parity and get the winning goal, however those chagces yielded minimum results as the Ghana FA Cup holders crashed out of the competition.
Zambian side Nkana FC and Al Hilal of Sudan goes through from the Group.
Kotoko finished the Group in third place with 7points but a better goal difference over ZESCO United who finished bottom.
