Chief Executive Officer of B/A United Osei Boateng shocked the entire Sunyani township when he told Sunyani-based Moonlite FM that his management has unsuccessfully searched for accommodation for their head coach for the past 2 months.
Ntow Gyan is a former Ghana international who played for the Black Stars during the era of the late Burkhard Ziese and is a cult hero in Sunyani after earning his name for his impeccable performances for B/A United and later for Asante Kotoko.
The Apostles of Power Soccer brought him to the reigns in mid-April following the club’s abysmal start to the NC Special Competition. And, the outspoken trainer has turned their season round securing 4 points out of possible 6 from cross-city rivals Bofoakwa Tano.
But, his performance has not motivated the club’s management to find him a suitable accommodation in Sunyani.
“I was staying in a guest house when I initially took charge but the payments the club had to make to the guest house was becoming too much and I didn’t want to be an extra cost to the club,” he told Sunyani-based Moonlite FM.
Ntow Gyan relocated to Techiman, a town in the Bono East region, to save the club from incurring the cost of accommodating him in a guest house.
“I’m currently in Techiman and that’s where I travel to training from and I do that on my motorbike. The cost of fueling the motorbike still rests on me,” he added.
The distance from Techiman to Sunyani is approximately 62.5 km and it takes 1 hour 21 minutes to cover the journey according to Google. Which means Ntow covers 125 km everyday he has to train his B/A United side thus traveling for 2 hours 42 minutes.
It is some of the roads that records high rate of road carnage due to the poor nature of the road.
Moonlite FM, ranked as the best radio station in the then Bono Ahafo Region in 2018, has revealed the ex-Ghana international was attacked on gunpoint at one of such travels after training his side.
B/A United say they are facing challenges in securing accommodation for the coach because they can’t landlords to negotiate terms and conditions with.
“For the last two months we have been looking for accommodation for our head coach but we haven’t had some but the ones we get too we can’t get hold of the landlord,” Osei Boateng responded on the show when he called to react.
B/A United remain one of the biggest existing traditional clubs in Ghana and have won pre-season tournaments including the 2002 pre-season Gala Cup after beating Liberty Professionals 5-3 on penalties in the finals at the Accra Sports Stadium.
United play in the Zone 1B of the tier two of the GFA NC Special Competition.
