Two second half goals from Evelyn Badu and Mukarama Abdulai handed Ghana a 2-0 win over Senegal in the opening match of the WAFU Women’s Cup of Nations.
The Black Queens put their title defense on track with a deserved victory over their counterparts at the Stade Robert Champroux.
After a scoreless first half, Ghana returned from the break much stronger and rewarded themselves with a goal in the 74th minute from the foot of Badu.
Substitute Mukarama Abdulai came off the bench to snatch the second for the Black Queens in added on time as the defending Champions picked their first win in the competition.
Defender Janet Egyire was adjudged the player of the match.
Meanwhile host Cote d’ Ivoire top Group A after thumping Togo 5-0 in the first game.
The Black Queens will next face Togo in a game which could see them book a place to the semi-finals.
The competition continues today with matches in Group B.
