Sprint Queens Gemma Acheampong and Persis William-Mensah have all progressed to the next round of the Women’s 100metres event at the African Games in Morocco.
The two made it out of their respective heats at the Olympic Stadium (Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium) on Monday morning.
William-Mensah, 23, qualified from heat 1 with a time of 11.76 falling behind South African Mamathu Tebogo.
Achemapong on the other hand made a time of 11.83 to finish third in Heart 5, good enough to send her through to the next round.
Both Gemma Acheampong, 26, and Persis William-Mensah are all part of Ghana’s 4×100 Women’s Relay team who will compete later in the competition.
Youngster Hor Halutie and Flings Owusu Achemapong are all expected to race in their respective hearts in the Women’s 100metres.
Azamati Benjamin Kwaku and Amoah Joseph Pau will also compete in the Men’s 100metres event later in the day.
