Ghana U23 midfielder Evans Mensah won’t play any further part in this season’s UEFA Europa League after his HJK Helsinki side were eliminated from the competition on Thursday evening.
The 21-year-old former Inter Allies steamroller started the game at the Telia 5G-Areena and completed the full 90 minutes as Latvian side Riga FC held them to a 2-2 drawn game.
Mensah lasted 65 minutes in the reverse fixture which ended 1-1 at the Daugavas Stadions last week.
HJK went into the game on high hopes to claim the much needed win and Petteri Forsell gave them the right impetus when he fired them into a 5th minute lead after Rafinha had wasted a penalty.
Finnish Tim Vayrynen restored their lead on the 70th minute mark after Roman Debelko had levelled for the visitors.
The Ukrainian scored 10 minutes from time to snatch the vital qualification for the visitors.
Mensah has scored once in his last 10 games for HJK.
