Asamoah Gyan believes his reign as substantive captain of the Black Stars was brought to an end due to external influences on Coach Kwesi Appiah.
Kwesi Appiah shockingly stripped off Gyan’s captaincy role prior to Ghana’s participation at the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt without a legit explanation.
The Coach replaced the longest serving member of the Black Stars team with Andre Ayew who previously served as a deputy captain, ultimately reassigning Gyan to be a “General Captain”.
Gyan claims his manager was influenced to take the outrageous decision.
“100% I believe Kwesi Appiah was influenced to take those decisions. There is no doubt about that,” Gyan told Asempa FM.
“They are not politicians but someone influenced him to take the decision. At the end the coach takes the responsibility but I know someone influenced him because it was not his own decision.”
The 33-year-old however played a little role in Ghana’s 2019 Africa Cup of Nations campaign making appearances in games against Cameroon and Tunisia.
