Coach Bashir Hayford was close to making history with Somalia but for two late goals conceded.
The Ghanaian tactician could not guide his side to their first ever qualification to the Group stage of the FIFA World Cup qualifiers after losing 3-1 to Zimbabwe in Harare.
Somalia had gone into the game with a 1-0 advantage recorded in Mugadishu.
The Ocean Stars almost stunned Zimbabwe when Umar Abdullah Mohamed scored in the 84rd minute to cancel out Marshal Munitsi’s 77th minute goal for the home side.
Just as it looked done and dusted for Somalia to make history, Admiral Muskwe scored from a brilliant free kick in the 86th minute before Kharma Billiat denied the visitors a famous qualification by striking in added on time to send the National Stadium into ecstasy, leaving Bashir Hayford and his men in agony.
The result sends Zimbabwe into the Group stage of the World Cup qualifiers on a 3-2 aggregate score.
