A project dubbed “ Beyond The GoalPost” has been launched in Dansoman-Agege, a suburb of Accra to encourage the participation of girls in educational and sporting activities. Its objective is to use sports as a key enabler to empower the youth through sports and life skills.
More than 80 girls between the ages of 8 and 16 from are to benefit from the project , which is an initiative of the French Embassy and Dunk Grassroots, and Education based NGO. The beneficiaries will also include a number of physical education tutors.
The partnership will see Dunk Grassroots assist in the provision of safe shelter for after school programs for the girls in the society, while the French Embassy provides financial assistance.
Speaking at the launch of the shelter, the Attaché of Cooperation at the French Embassy in Ghana CHAPON Marion recommended DUNK for their role in educating girls through sports. According to her, the France Embassy’s willingness to work with DUNK is because both Ghana and France believe in a set of values that sports bring.
She also charged DUNK Grassroots to use the project to empower girls. According to her, DUNK and 13 other organisation will benefit from funding from the French Embassy in 2019 and 2020. The part of the program that aims to strengthen the civil society in Ghana by offering capacity building and financing pilot project. I wish that your project will show girls that they can pursue any career of their liken.
