FIFA congress is rotated across member countries on yearly basis, this is exactly what will be witnessed in Ghana under George Afriyie’s Presidency at the Ghana Football Association.
More often than not the Ghana FA congress is held in Accra – the city which doubles as the capital for Ghana and the Greater Accra region, with other regions being overlooked. By, this singular move the rest of the nation is denied a feel of the decision-making process at the football regulatory body.
Football is played, enjoyed and managed across the West African nation with most regarding the Bono region as the bedrock of football in the country which has won the AFCON four times.
George Afriyie, who is already regarded by most people as the likeliest candidate to win the GFA Presidency race, has shown the entire nation and football fraternity that he believes in the contrary and wants to empower the rest of the country and introduce decentralisation in the decision-making process.
Whilst he chose to move his manifesto launch from Accra to Sunyani to set him apart from the rest of the candidates who have firmly shown their clinch to the old system of doing things Afriyie has pledged to ensure the GFA congress is rotated among all the ten regions in the country.
The CAF AFCON Organising Committee member has demonstrated to all and sundry that he is capable of delivering the promises he has enshrined in his manifesto. On Saturday morning before he launched his manifesto, he delivered footballs to all the players who participated in the football festival that preceded his manifesto launched.
