Ghana were held to a goalless stalemate by Kenya in the first leg of the third round qualifier for the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games.
The Black Queens now have a huge task of beating Kenya away from home in the return leg to progress into the next round.
Ghana who looked to have no antidote to break a defensive Kenyan side could not utilized the chances that came their way with forward Miliot Pokuaa being the worse culprit after missing the best chance of the game in the first half.
Evelyne Badu was also unlucky to find the back of the net when her header came off the upright in the latter part of the game.
Kenya could have caused a major upset in the latter stages but for some brilliant saves by goalkeeper Fafali Dumahisi.
Coach Mercy Tagoe who did not have the luxury of her first team players plying their trades abroad only had to rely on players of the Black Maidens and Black Princesses team with captain Portia Boakye, Elizabeth Addo, Sheriffatu Suleman, Alice Kusi, Faustina Ampah, Grace Asantewaa, Priscilla Adubea, and Sandra Owusu-Ansah all missing out due to the Ministry’s inability to provide air tickets.
Ghana must now beat Kenya away in Nairobi to advance to the next stage.
