Jordan Ayew’s solitary goal handed Ghana a narrow 1-0 win over Sao Tome e Principe in the second Group qualifier for the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations.
The Crystal Palace man converted from the penalty spot in the second half as the Black Stars grabbed all points away from home.
Ayew could have given Ghana the lead midway in the first half after the Sao Tome goalkeeper failed to deal with a ball, however his pass to Samuel Owusu was blocked by the Sao Tome defenders.
Thomas Partey could not direct his header from close range after a perfect in-swinger from Gideon Mensah.
The breakthrough finally came when the Black Stars were awarded a penalty in the 54th minute.
Emmanuel Boateng was impeded in the box by the Sao Tome goalkeeper. Jordan Ayew stepped and expertly converted.
The result puts Ghana top in the Group with 6points from two matches.
