Ghana’s male Rugby team have received a donation of $8,000 (GHC45, 000) from the Ghana Olympic Committee ahead of the Africa Men’s Sevens tournament in South Africa.
Ghana joined 13 other African countries to participate in the competition to be staged at the Bosman stadium in Johannesburg from November 8-9 for a place at next year’s Olympic Games in Tokyo.
Team Ghana will scuffle it out with Zimbabwe, Kenya, Uganda, Madagascar, Zambia, Tunisia, Senegal, Morocco, Namibia, Botswana, Mauritius, Ivory Coast and Nigeria for the automatic qualification spot for Africa or possibly secure the second position to stand a chance of competing for a place at the Olympics.
The donation by the Ghana Olympic Committee is to serve as a motivation to the team as they seek their first appearance at the Olympics.
