Jacob Partey, father of Ghana international Thomas Partey has promised to pay the GHC2400 fine imposed on pitch invader Awal Sulemana “London”.
The football fan based in Cape Coast forcefully stormed onto the pitch during Ghana’s Cup of Nations qualifier against South Africa in an attempt to take a “selfie” with his icon.
Awal ended up being unlucky as he was arrested by Policemen who held him in custody for 48 hours before granting him bail.
The young man who was charged for unlawfully causing disorder was also fined GH24, 000 and sign a bond or face a three Months presence sentence.
However the family of the Atletico Madrid star have declared their intension to settle the fine.
“We will pay the money they are asking for so Awal doesn’t go to prison,” Jacob Partey told Kingdom FM.
“Thomas Partey is aware of this and we have spoken to him already.
“We are aware the young man only wanted to have a photo with his icon that saw him ending up in this situation.
“So we have taken it upon ourselves to pay the fine so he will be freed.”
Already Awal Sulemana who is said to be a student nurse have vowed never to interrupt football matches again.
