Fans of Swiss side FC Servette have voted Ghana winger Ishmael Yartey among the club’s Greatest XI of the last decade.
Yartey, a former Benfica starlet, spent the 2011/12 season at the 30,000 capacity Stade de Genève with The Maroons and bagged 8 goals in 31 games in all competitions – finishing as the top scorer of the club in that season.
The former Sochaux winger is the only player in the XI who made the grades despite playing just a season for the club.
Servette Digital channel pundits described the 2007 FIFA World Cup Ghana starlet as: “A magnificent player, technically he is extraordinary and he really deserves it. Its logic, he played one season it was very high level performance with great individual performances and was very decisive as well. We remember his goal against Basel and his monster goal against Xamax. But it’s a pity he didn’t stay for long at Servette because he was on loan from Benfica but it’s clear he has been the best left winger for Servette.”
Another added: ” Yartey is a player you wear his shirt and have his name behind you it’s something like wow and you proud because he is a player that moves. He runs and brings fire in the stadium. He is a player you always want to come see on the pitch because he brings light. I remember his game against Sion as well he was all over and very impressive in every aspect of the game.”
Yartey left Servette at the end of the 2011/12 season to join Sochaux in the French Ligue 1 and went ahead to make 10 league appearances for the club in one season before returning to Switzerland to join Sion.
He enjoyed an impressive spell with KPV in the Finnish Veikkausliiga after joining the side in summer 2019, scoring 6 goals in 11 appearances for the side.
