The Ghanaian sports media have descended heavily on football administrator Takyi Arhin for intentionally peddling falsehood and misleading the sporting public on the much-anticipated Court of Arbitration for Sports (CAS) verdict which was expected on Tuesday.
Takyi, a clubless football administrator who is known to be an unstable character, claimed both parties had been served with the executive summary of the verdict and went ahead to tell Richard Ntow Gyan on Sunyani-based Nimdee FM that he has sighted a copy of the CAS verdict which he claimed had gone in favour of the Ghana Football Association.
The former B/A United and Berekum Arsenal official, who has become popular in the Ghanaian media landscape with a new tagline ‘BELLYTICIAN’, went ahead to pontificate that there will be no re-run of the Ghana FA Presidential elections per the verdict he had sighted.
Hundreds of thousands of expectant Ghanaian football fans were kept at the edge of their seats on Tuesday as they waited in vein for a word from the Lausanne-based adjudicatory chamber. CAS subjected the entire football landscape in the West African nation to drama and suspense as journalists and sympathisers massed up in the camps of the various parties involved in the case.
The body was expected to deliver the landmark verdict on July 17, 2020 but postponed it to August 4, 2020. But, as it turned out to be no verdict was delivered to the parties.
Takyi Arhin’s bold lies which deceived the entire football population that a verdict had been delivered to the respective parties further heightened the tension, introduced an unwanted cliffhanger, suspense and drama in the football system.
Ghana’s leading online sports portal GHANAsoccernet.com captioned a headline: EXPOSED: Popular “bellytician dinosaur” Takyi Arhin hides in a “rat hole” after CAS claim and went ahead to write that: The loud-mouthed, who is without a club affiliation, claimed in the most shameless manner that he has secured an executive summary of the ruling from the global sports tribunal on Tuesday. But CAS’ decision to extend the verdict for the much-anticipated case to September 1, 2020, means Mr Arhin brazenly lied in the most unbelievable manner, leaving him to hide in a rat hole amid an incessant pressure from the local media. The obvious untruth sparked anxiety among supporters of both the appellant and the defendant in the famous case which has far-reaching implication on the direction of Ghana football.
Fast-rising sports analyst Hussein Adams in his submission on The Total Sports Show on Sunyani-based Nimdee FM on Wednesday afternoon took his time to address the issue and described the entire episode as a needless venture which did no good to Ghana football.
Several other media practitioners took their time to address the issue which brought shame to the administrator and the camp he belongs to.
