Black Stars head coach Charles Akonnor must be worried over the game time of his players as a pack of his invitees were not involved in action for their clubs over the weekend.
Over all just 13 out of the 23 players were involved in action for their clubs with 12 starters while just 7 completed the game.
Only Richard Ofori, Samuel Owusu and Eugene Ansah couldn’t play because their leagues were not in session. Below is the comprehensive wrap of how all the 23 players performed over the weekend for their clubs.
Goalkeeper Richard Ofori was inactive over the weekend because the South African Premier Soccer League season has ended with Maritzburg United placing 7th on the log. Former WAFA glovesman Razak Abalora is clubless meaning there was no action for him during the weekend. However there was full time action for Lawrence Ati-Zigi as he manned the posts for St Gallen in their 1-0 away win over Vaduz in the Swiss Super League on Sunday.
Newbie Benson Anang was unused by 6th placed Zilina who suffered a massive battering at the hands of Zlaté Moravce who hammered them 4-0. The 20-year-old sat on the substitute bench for the entire period of the game. Elsewhere on the continent defender Yakubu Mohammed played full throttle for Azam FC who defeated Tanzania Prisons 1-0 in an away fixture. Central defender Nicholas Opoku started the game in defence for Amiens when they were held to a 0-0 stalemate by visiting Pau on Saturday. Defender Lumor Agbenyenu could not make the grades for Sporting Club de Portugal otherwise known as Sporting CP in their 2-0 away triumph over Pacos Ferreira. Gideon Mensah conspicuously missed out of the Vitoria Guimaraes match day squad as they recorded a 0-0 draw with Rio Ave on Sunday evening. France-born Alexander Djiku lasted 61 minutes for Strasbourg who lost 3-2 against hosts AS Monaco on Sunday. Elsewhere at the Estadio José Zorrilla in Spain defender Joseph Aidoo was a pillar for Celta de Vigo when they drew 1-1 with Real Valladolid on Sunday afternoon. He lasted the entire period of the game. Center-back Kasim Nuhu was benched by TSG Hoffenheim in their unanticipated 4-1 battering of record-winners Bayern Munich on Sunday evening.
Emmanuel Lomotey played 60 minutes for Amien in the French second-tier division when they shared the spoils in a 0-0 draw with Pau. Deputy captain Thomas Partey enjoyed just 19 minutes of action for Atletico de Madrid when they demolished Granada 6-1 on Sunday. He was brought on in the 71st minute. Bernard Mensah was a full timer for Besiktas when they suffered a heavy 4-1 loss at Konyaspor on Sunday afternoon. Baba Iddrisu Mohammed lasted 79 minutes for Real Mallorca when they claimed a 1-0 victory over visiting Sabadell in the Spanish second-tier league.
Skipper Andre Ayew opened his goal account in the English Championship as he scored and assisted for Swansea City in their 2-0 away win over Wycombe Wanderers. Jordan Ayew was in action for 82 minutes for Crystal Palace when they lost 2-1 to leaders Everton. Jeffrey Schlupp didn’t play for Palace because of injury. There was no activity for striker Eugene Ansah due to suspension of Hapoel Kiryat Shmona’s league game over the weekend. On Thursday striker John Antwi played 61 minutes for Pyramids FC but failed to find the back of the net in their 3-1 away win over Ismaily. Winger Samuel Owusu didn’t get involved in action as his Al Fayha side were not involved in action in Saudi Arabia because the league is not in session. Offensive midfielder Kudus Mohammed pulled a chestnut from the blazing fire for Ajax Amsterdam as he set up their match winner in a 2-1 win over Vitesse Arnhem on Saturday.
