Maritzburg United goalkeeper Richard Ofori has been named as the second vice captain of the Ghana national team, according to the Ghana Football Association.
Ofori, 26, is second to Atletico de Madrid midfielder Thomas Partey who is deputy to substantive captain Andre Ayew.
Ghana coach Charles Akonnor makes the new announcement after taking reins of the Ghana senior national team coach.
The decision ultimately puts to rest any uncertainty around the captaincy when elder of the Ayew brothers – Rahim Ayew, said in a recent interview that his younger brother Jordan Ayew should be made Vice captain of the squad.
The comments sparked controversy in the country and mass following of the Ghana national team opposed the idea and stated the family wanted to the turn the Ghana national team into a family affair.
Ofori is a former Ghana youth goalkeeper after playing for the Ghana U20 side in the 2013 FIFA U20 World Cup.
He is capped 26 times by the West African powerhouse.
