The Sports Writers Association of Ghana have presented awards to Christian Amoah and Winnifred Ntumi as male and female weightlifters of the year 2019.
The debonair and ever-confident female champion Ntumi beat off competition from other athletes within his division to win the ultimate gong following her explosive exploits in the calendar year.
Ntumi, a powerful performer, won a bronze medal at the 2019 African Weightlifting Championship, after excelling in the 49 kg category on the continental level. She later won 3 Bronze medals in the 2019 Africa Games in Morocco in the women’s 45kg category and for competing in the women’s 45 kg category.
A total of 7 medals, and certificates from various international competitions in the year made Miss Ntumi beat all female weightlifters to the award.
Christian Amoah, captain of Ghana’s of Black Cranes, claimed the ultimate prize in the male division after exhibiting superiority in his field of competition during the calendar year.
Amoah grabbed 3 Gold medals in the Africa Weightlifting Junior Championships in Uganda, 3 Bronze medals in the African Games in Morocco and 2 Bronze medals in African Weightlifting Championships in Egypt putting him above his colleagues and worthy of the title.
The 45th SWAG Awards Night is scheduled to take place on October 10, 2020 and is being sponsored by telecommunications giants MTN.
