CK Akonnor grabbed his first win as Black Stars Coach after supervising the side to beat Qatar 5-1 in an international friendly.
The team recovered from a 3-0 defeat to Mali to win convincingly against the Asian Champions.
Qatar created the first opportunity at goal after Al Moize Ali Abdullah’s effort rattled the post.
That seem to be a wake-up call for the Black Stars who then took over by dominating the game.
Andre Ayew nearly found the back of the net in the 13th minute after he found his lame shot saved by the Qatari goalkeeper following a wonderful work from the left.
Tariqe found the breakthrough for Ghana in the 22nd minute after connecting to Jordan Ayew’s cross to put the Black Stars ahead. Jordan Ayew however had his well-dispatched strike miss the target shortly after as the Black Stars kept dominating and creating a couple of decent opportunities.
Ali Abdullah will however equalize for Qatar just on the stroke of half time after a miscommunication between Joseph Aidoo and goalkeeper Razak Abalora.
Thomas Partey almost put Ghana into the lead but his effort will be saved by the Qatar goalkeeper. Andre Ayew was however denied by the upright then after as the game remain in a stalemate.
Captain Andre Ayew restored Ghana’s lead by finding himself in a good position to pounce on Thomas Partey’s initial effort.
Samuel Owusu then got Ghana’s third with a calm finish having received a sweet pass from Thomas Partey. Andre got his second and Ghana’s fourth before Caleb Ekuban came off the bench to round up victory with a fifth.
The team will head into next Month’s Cup of Nations qualifier against Sudan.
