Ghanaian international Ishmael Yartey has joined Finnish top division side FC Haka as a free agent, the club has announced.
Yartey, 31, moves to the Tehtaan kenttä, Valkeakoski and makes a return to the Finnish top-flight division after enjoying a memorable spell with KPV Kokkola in the later parts of the 2019/20 season.
He was voted the KPV Player of the Season for 2019 and became only the first African in 15 years to win the gong.
Haka beat competition from other clubs in the top division such as Honka and KuPS to land the winger.
The former SL Benfica attacker took the Veikkausliiga by storm during his previous spell as he scored for fun and created many goals for KPV.
After exiting KPV the former Sochaux attacker joined Saudi side Hetten on a brief spell.
He spoke to Haka after joining the club.
“One of the main reasons why I chose Haka was the conversation I had with Teemu Tainio, which left a positive picture. He called me and inquired about my willingness to join the team. Now I’m here and happy about it! I look forward to helping the team achieve their goals,” he said.
The winger could go straight into the Haka team for their upcoming Finnish Cup game.
