Ghana Football Association spokesman Henry Asante Twum has confirmed England based attacker Kwame Afriyie Poku will join the Black Stars B team for the international friendly against Uzbekistan.
The 19-year-old who was named in Ghana’s Cup of Nations qualifiers against South Africa and São Tomé e Principe will now have to join the home based Black Stars team having initially been named in CK Akonnor’s squad.
Poku in effect has been placed under probation with the aim of justifying himself into the Akonnor’s team hence the decision to have him join the Black Stars B squad instead of the main team.
“CK Akonnor aware of Every Player Called including Kwame Afriyie Opoku,” spokesman of the FA Henry Asante Twum told Oyerepa FM.
“3 meetings were held before the Black Stars list was released involving the technical director, management committee, technical team and Int Relations committee.
“He will join the team going to Uzbekistan from Europe to be monitored by Ibrahim Tanko to send reports and recommendations to the technical team and FA
“It was suggested we monitor him closely if he fits into our scheme of things then we continue calling him.
“He(Kwame Afriyie Poku) is a talent and prospect we need to tie down but it’s possible the coach(CK Akonnor) had his own reservations but he’s aware of every player called.”
The Colchester United player has been one of the main talking points since the squad list was announced.
