Asante Kotoko needed the heroics of defender Ismail Ganiyu to steal a point against Liberty Professionals at the WAFA Arena in Sogakope in the Ghana Premier League on Sunday.
Defender Evans Owusu gave Liberty the lead on 36 minutes but Andy Sinasen’s side failed to protect the lead 7 minutes from time as Ganiyu levelled the scoring for Kotoko.
Liberty needed the maximum points for their relegation survival quest while Kotoko needed to secure the victory with Hearts breathing down on their necks at the top of the table.
Kotoko coach Mariano Barreto assembled his best players as he started Brazilian Fabio Gama, Augustine Okrah, Osman Ibrahim and Mudasiru Seidu.
Despite the draw Kotoko still lead the table with 45 points while Liberty sit in the drop zone with 26 points.
