Leicester City’s young attacking midfielder Kamal Sowah has declined a call up from Ghana coach Charles Akonnor to play for the Black Stars in international friendlies against Morocco and the Ivory Coast.
The 21-year-old is one of Ghana’s brightest talents in Europe following a flourishing season with OH Leuven where he bagged 8 league goals in 34 outings in the 2020/21 season.
Leicester signed Sowah from Ghana’s Right to Dream Academy in 2018 and immediately loaned him out to Leuven in Belgium.
Leicester City have loaned out the youngster to the Belgian club for the past four seasons but his loan spell has finally come to an end and is set for a return to Leicester.
Sowah is one of the players Akonnor scouted for his Black Stars rebuilding project and was hoping to have the youngster available for assessment in the international friendlies against the Atlas Lions of Morocco and the Elephants of Ivory Coast.
The Ghana FA have confirmed in a statement published on their website that Sowah has declined to play for Ghana in those two games.
It is unclear whether he would be offered another call up in the future.
