Mamelodi Sundowns finished the season with a 3-0 win over Cape Town City at Loftus Versfeld on Saturday afternoon.

The Brazilians made five changes from the win over Bloemfontein Celtic, as they recalled Ricardo Nascimento, Thapelo Morena, Aubrey Modiba, Sphelele Mkhulise and Lebohang Maboe.

City had a wonderful chance to grab an early lead in the second minute after Fagrie Lakay broke the line to go clear on goal but he could not beat goalkeeper Kennedy Mweene, in a one-on-one situation.

The hosts took their first opportunity of the game as Lyle Lakay gave them the lead in the tenth minute with a trademark free-kick just outside the box, that caught inexperienced goalkeeper Marc Anderson flat-footed.

Sundowns grew from there and Peter Shalulile had a great chance to double their lead in the 16th minute after going through on goal but fired a low strike just wide of the bottom corner.

Masandawana were forced into a substitution just before the half-hour mark after Mosa Lebusa landed awkwardly from an aerial challenge and he was replaced by Brian Onyango.

Eric Tinkler made a double change at half-time, as Justin Shonga replaced Abdul Ajagun and Mpho Makola came on for Charles Zulu, both for tactical reasons and Makola came close to snatching the equaliser four minutes thereafter with a header that was cleared off the line by Morena.

Masandawana were patient with their attacks and Lakay came close to doubling their lead on the hour-mark with a dipping strike from range that was parried over the bar by Anderson.

Sundowns also made a double tactical change in the last 22 minutes, with Haashim Domingo coming on for Modiba and Promise Mkhuma replaced Gaston Sirino.

Shalulile eventually made it 2-0 for the Brazilians 14 minutes before time with a clinical low strike across Anderson after going on a solo run and got his 14th league goal.

Chasing a Golden Boot award, Shalulile made it 3-0 for the Brazilians eight minutes before time, got his brace and his 15th league goal with a first-time left-footed strike after a diagonal through ball by Morena.

Mweene denied City a consolation goal in the dying minutes with a double save, keeping out a strike from Lakay and Shonga and Shalulile hit the post in stoppage time, as he fell one goal short of catching up with top goal-scorer Bradley Grobler.
