Bechem United secured their status in the Ghana Premier League after edging Asante Kotoko 2-1 at the Nana Fosu Gyeabour Park on Sunday afternoon.
26-year-old forward raced Bechem into an early through Steven Owusu after he received a pass from 16-year-old midfielder Clinton Duodo who made light works of Patrick Asmah in the vital area.
Bechem should have increased their lead on the 16th minute mark when Steven Owusu squared the ball to Charles Mensah whose effort was deflected by Razak Abalora.
Hunters goalkeeper Abdulai Iddrisu committed a howler as he failed to control a back pass which allowed Solomon Sarfo Taylor to collect the ball in an unmarked position to score the equaliser for the Porcupine Warriors. Malian defender Boubacar Doumbia tried to locate Iddrisu to develop the Bechem play from the back but he made a mistake which gifted Kotoko the leveler.
Four minutes before half-time Bechem were awarded a penalty when Caleb Asamoah was brought down in the box. The No. 26 skipped past a defender inside the box before Patrick Asmah brought him down.
Steven Owusu stepped up and sent Abalora the wrong way to seal the three points for Bechem who have now secured their status in the league.
