Hearts of Oak recorded a 1-1 drawn game with relegation-threatened Liberty Professionals at the Accra Sports Stadium in the Ghana Premier League on Sunday afternoon.
The Phobians have claimed the Ghana Premier League title despite sharing the spoils.
In-form attacker Daniel Afriyie Barnieh headed home the solitary goal of the game in first-half stoppage-time. The 19-year-old ghosted past two Liberty defenders to connect home a teasing corner kick from Salifu Ibrahim.
Liberty clinched a late equaliser to snatch a point from the game.
Before the opening goal, 10-goal attacker Kwadwo Obeng Junior nearly hit the opener from 12 yards but Michael Nii Laryea swept the ball away from the dangerous territory.
Former Asante Kotoko left-back Evans Owusu was one of the brightest spots in the Liberty set up as he led the Scientific Soccer Lads’ charge with Abraham Wayo, Brite Andoh and Kwaku Karikari.
Liberty created a flurry of chances in the opening 20 minutes but failed to convert them into goals as Hearts gradually warmed themselves into the game with Congolese defender Raddy Ovouka making marauding runs into the Liberty half.
Salifu Ibrahim sent in calibrated balls into the Liberty area with intention of locating the runs of Afriyie Barnieh and Obeng Junior but the Liberty defensive lines worked perfectly to keep them at bay until Afriyie Barnieh beat the defence to connect home the only goal of the game.
