The 2020/21 Ghana Premier League champions were stretched to extra-time after relegation-survivors Sharks proved tough nuts for the 10-time Cup winners.
Sharks trainer Nii Odartey Lamptey urged his side on to go for the kill and the Sharks displayed some entertaining football with Benjamin Bernard Boateng and Kingsley Adjei providing some moments of hope for the Greens.
Benjamin Afutu and Daniel Afriyie Barnieh both came close to scoring the opening goal of the encounter within regulation-time but Sharks keeper Essam stopped the balls.
Sharks talisman James Bissue was brought on in the dying embers of the second-half to try and weave a magic for the Greens but it was Hearts of Oak who scored a crucial finish for the Phobians.
Daniel Afriyie Barnieh was fouled in the area and Caleb Amankwah, Raddy Ovouka and Fatawu Mohammed massed up for the ball but it was the former WAFA man who darted a fierce drive home for the winner.
Hearts will meet the winner of the clash involving Medeama SC and Attram de Visser.
