Ghana’s Black Stars travelled to South Africa on Saturday without Stade Rennais midfield talisman Kamaldeen Sulemana, the Ghana FA has confirmed.
The 19-year-old Techiman-born will fly out of Accra on Sunday to France to join his club ahead of the resumption of the French Ligue 1 campaign this weekend.
According to a statement published by the Ghana FA on their website Stade Rennais have requested for the midfield to return to the club.
“England based quintet, Daniel Amartey (Leicester City), Jeffrey Schlupp (Leicester City), Jordan Ayew (Crystal Palace), Andrew Yiadom (Reading FC) and Baba Abdul Rahman (Reading FC) were not part of the travelling party following the decision of Premier League clubs not to allow their players travel to COVID-19 red listed countries. Others who missed the trip are Rennes forward Kamal Deen Suleymana and Daniel Kyereh of German side St. Pauli – the duo have been recalled by their clubs.”
The talented midfielder started the game for Charles Akonnor’s side in the 1-0 win over Ethiopia’s Walia Ibex at the Cape Coast Stadium on Friday but was substituted by Yaw Yeboah on the 68th minute.
7 players didn’t travel with the squad to the Rainbow country with quintet Daniel Amartey (Leicester City), Jeffrey Schlupp (Leicester City), Jordan Ayew (Crystal Palace), Andy Yiadom (Reading FC) and Baba Abdul Rahman (Reading FC) not allowed by prevalent COVID-19 conditions set by the United Kingdom against red-zone countries like South Africa.
The former Right to Dream Academy player has been capped twice by Ghana.
