Asante Kotoko board chairman Dr Kwame Kyei is in favour of Mariano Barreto returning to Ghana to continue in his role as the head coach of the Porcupine Warriors, according to reports by Kumasi-based Kessben TV.
The 64-year-old is currently in his native Portugal on holiday and appears to have overstayed his holidays in his homeland as he is uncertain of his return date to the shores of the country.
A section of the local media have claimed Kotoko have reached an agreement with the former Ghana U23 head coach over the termination of his running contract with the club.
However, a report filed on Tuesday by Kumasi-based Kessben TV claims the club’s board chairman is not in favour of any decision to cancel the contract of the coach.
According to broadcast journalist Joe Lakka on Kessben TV’s midfield action, Dr Kyei is of the opinion that cancelling Barreto’s contract will impose a new financial burden on the club and is he not in favour of any such decision.
The business tycoon has reportedly telephoned the Portuguese gaffer to return to Ghana to see out the rest of his contract duration.
