Ghanaian champions Hearts of Oak were humbled 6-1 by Moroccan giants Wydad Athletic Club in the CAF Champions League’s preliminary stage clash at the King Muhammed V Stadium in Casablanca on Sunday night.
It was a night to forget for the Phobians who shipped 4 goals in the first-half before the merciless Red Castle added two more in the second-half with substitute Patrick Razak scoring the consolation goal for the Ghanaian treble winners.
Hearts of Oak head coach Samuel Boadu rang changes in his starting XI as he introduced William Dankyi to replace the unfit Raddy Ovouka while Caleb Amankwah also came in for Frederick Ansah Botchway in midfield.
During the post-match of the reverse fixture in Accra, the Wydad stand-in coach was emphatic that the Red Castle was going to overturn the 1-0 deficit and progress to the group stages and they did that in grand style.
The host scored twice within 8 minutes of kick-off and went ahead to score additional 2 goals before the interval.
After the break, Simon Msuva, who scored the opener, added another goal as they increased their lead to 6-0 before substitute Patrick Razak registered the consolation goal from a Frederick Ansah Botchway assist.
Hearts of Oak now drops to the CAF Confederation Cup.
